They're built for different hours of the day, and the differences worth weighing all come back to where and how you pump.

What a session looks like with each pump
With the Zomee Fit, pumping happens in the middle of something else. You assemble each pump from four washable parts, slip one into each side of your bra, press start, and go back to whatever you were doing. You can pump both sides at the same time or one side at a time. A built-in timer tracks the session without an app, and a fullness sensor can shut the pump off automatically at 4, 5, or 6 oz. Sit upright while you pump: wearables work best that way.
A Z2 session is more of a sit-down. You settle near an outlet or run the battery (at least 2 hours per charge), connect the tubing to the breast shields or to the Zomee Hands-Free Collection Cups, and set the session from the LCD screen. You get three modes with 9 levels each, 27 combinations in all, plus Single Left, Single Right, and Alternate settings for sides that respond differently. The screen shows exactly what the pump is doing, a soft night light covers the middle-of-the-night session, and the motor runs at 46 dB.
Cleanup and discretion
Cleanup favors the Zomee Fit on part count: four washable parts per side, hand washed in warm water with mild dish soap and left to air dry. The Z2 has more to wash (breast shields, duckbill valves, diaphragms, and whatever you pumped into), but its tubing never needs washing, because the closed system keeps milk out of the tubes entirely. On both pumps, duckbill valves and diaphragms wear with use and need replacing every 1 to 3 months. If either pump suddenly feels weak, a worn duckbill valve is the usual cause.
Both pumps run at 46 dB, so discretion comes down to what people can see. The Z2 looks like what it is, with tubing and a pump unit beside you, so it fits a private lactation room better than a shared desk. The Zomee Fit is worn inside your bra with no tubing and nothing to plug in, which makes a shared office, a commute, or a grocery run workable.
Suction strength and session control
The Z2's maximum suction is higher, up to 300 mmHg against the Zomee Fit's 280 mmHg, and both are hospital-grade. Read those numbers as ceilings, not results. The most common reason a brand-new pump feels weak is flange size, not motor strength, which is why both pumps include more than one size.
The Z2 has 9 levels in each of three modes, Alternate and single-side settings, and a screen that shows every choice. The Zomee Fit has Nipple Correction Mode, which gently draws the nipple into better alignment to improve the seal, designed with flat or inverted nipples in mind. Both pumps also run 2-Phase Mode, which moves from quick stimulation to slower, deeper expression on its own, the way a baby does. The Z2 also has Shabbat Mode, which runs the pump automatically on intervals set before Shabbat, with no buttons or adjustments needed. It was developed with rabbinic guidance and is certified by Star-K.
The insurance path
Both pumps may be covered by insurance, and the Z2 is the insurance favorite in the Zomee lineup. Most plans cover a breast pump for each pregnancy, but coverage varies by plan. Zomee doesn't bill insurance directly: a DME provider verifies your benefit, confirms which models your plan includes, and ships the pump. The two-pump routine
Some moms use both. The Z2 covers the morning and evening sessions at home, and the Zomee Fit covers the commute and the workday.
Your nipple measurement is the same on both pumps, but the included sizes differ, so match it to the closest size on each. Not by itself. On either pump, turn suction up slowly and only to a level that feels comfortable. You should never feel pain while pumping.
How do I find my flange size for the Zomee Fit or the Z2?
